Tabla for Sale

What is in a tabla set?

• Dayan (also called tabla): the smaller, higher-pitched drum, played with the right hand.
• Bayan: the larger, bass drum, played with the left hand.

Together the two drums give the bright, ringing strokes and the deep, bending bass sounds that tabla players are known for. Sets are traditionally made by hand, so each one can differ slightly.

Tabla for singers, students and kirtan players

• Students of Indian classical music use tabla to learn rhythm (taal) alongside vocal or instrumental practice.
• Kirtan and bhajan groups use it for rhythmic accompaniment to chanting and singing.
• Harmonium players often pair their instrument with tabla. See which harmonium is best and our Kirtan Harmoniums.
