Handmade in India, shipped to the UK.
The harmonium is a familiar sound across the UK. You’ll hear it in gurdwaras in Southall and Birmingham, in Hindu temples in Leicester, at bhajan evenings in community halls, and more and more in kirtan and sound-bath sessions from Brighton to Glasgow. RagaLoom brings handcrafted Indian harmoniums straight from India to British players. Switch the currency selector to GBP to see every price in pounds sterling.
What makes our harmoniums a good fit for UK musicians
- Handcrafted in India, in teak, mahogany-colour and oak-finish cabinets
- Tuned to A440 Hz as standard, the pitch used by British orchestras, schools and recording studios, so you can play alongside keyboards, guitars and other Western instruments
- Checked before dispatch. Every instrument is checked before it is packed.
- Many models include a padded gig bag or carry bag for carrying the instrument to a mandir, gurdwara or yoga studio.
Choosing your model
For bhajan, shabad and kirtan at the temple or gurdwara
A full 3½-octave keyboard with a coupler gives the rich, layered sound that fills a hall. Look at the Extra-Height Mahogany Harmonium (9 stops, coupler) or the Extra-Height Teak Matte Harmonium (42 keys). The extra-height cabinet is designed for longer sustain.
For flat living and practice
If space is tight, a 39-key standard model such as the Teak Standard Coupler Harmonium gives a full sound in a smaller footprint.
For commuting and festivals
Taking the train to a workshop or heading to a summer festival? See our Travel Harmoniums, including the No-Stop Folding Traveler, which has a suitcase-style cabinet and coupler.
Shipping to the UK
We ship from India to the United Kingdom by FedEx/DHL. Shipping is $15 plus $25 per item (for example, $40 for one instrument), calculated at checkout. Customs duties and import taxes are not included in the item price or the shipping cost, and they are paid by the buyer. Every instrument is checked before dispatch. See the full shipping & customs page. Our returns policy allows returns within 30 days for orders under $600 and within 10 days for orders of $600 or more. The buyer pays return shipping and customs.
Damp, central heating and your harmonium
British homes swing between damp autumns and dry, centrally heated winters, and reed instruments notice. Avoid storing your harmonium against an outside wall or next to a radiator. Air the bellows by playing a few minutes every week, and keep it in its bag when not in use. See How to Care for Your Harmonium.
Add a drone
A shruti box is a simple way to add a steady drone to daily riyaz (practice). Ours are A440-tuned as standard; start with the compact 15-Inch Teak Shruti Box. Not sure which one you need? Read Harmonium vs Shruti Box.
